Swiss Luxury Watchmaker Hublot Accepts Bitcoin

According to a press release from Hublot, the Swiss luxury wristwatch is now taking bitcoin as payment, starting with a 200-piece limited-edition release of the Big Bang Unico series.

While this limited-edition collection is the first to be released, the United States eBoutique’s adoption of bitcoin is not going away. The company teamed with BitPay to deliver the capability to this restricted release, and the two companies will continue to work together in the future.

Customers will pay roughly $21,800 for one of the watches from this collection, which is somewhat more than the current price of 1 BTC. Hublot’s main collection is the Big Bang, and the Unico limited-edition watch is composed of titanium.

Hublot isn’t the only luxury brand that has embraced the bitcoin ecosystem. Gucci, Farfetch, and Balenciaga, for example, have all previously announced limited trials or full acceptance of bitcoin as payment. SFLMaven, a luxury jewelry reseller, and Continental Diamond, a jewelry retailer, have also stated that they will accept bitcoin.

Similarly, Hublot isn’t the first premium watchmaker established in Switzerland to take bitcoin. Tag Heuer said on May 19 that it would accept the digital currency for its online platform.
